All portraits (except miniatures) are retouched, cropped, and custom-printed as needed. Finished portraits are flush-mounted on a rigid surface and signed by the artist.

Basic facial and skin retouching is included. Corrective digital modifications to whiten, straighten, or fill-in missing teeth, to remove braces, to remove stray hairs, and glasses glare, to open eyes, and switch heads (expressions) are at an additional cost. See image modifications price schedule.

Creation Fee For All Portraits is $300

Here's an explanation of what the various finished are:

  1. Canvas - This is one of the most elegant finishes I offer, and is also one of the most popular.  At least half of my clients select this finish.  First, the image is printed on paper; then the emulsion layer (that contains the actual photograph) is separated from the paper and is placed on an actual canvas.  With heat and pressure the emulsion layer is then permanently bonded to the canvas, and the resulting portrait has all of the characteristics of the canvas surface with all the clarity of a photograph.
  1. Classic - This is a portrait printed on paper but texturing is applied to the paper to give it various effects.  My two most popular classic finishes are:
bulletThe "Brushstroke" finish, that looks like an actual painting with brushstrokes clearly visible, but has all the clarity of a photograph.  This would never be mistaken for an actual painting but it is a very pleasing effect.
bulletThe "Linen" finish that looks like the photograph was printed on an actual piece of linen.  My clients have always selected this finish as a compromise because it comes the closest to looking like the canvas finish without the additional investment of canvas.
  1. Paper - This is a semi-matte surface that is very flattering for portraits.  It is definitely not the glossy kind of 4x6 prints you get from the one-hour photo finishers.
  1. Impressionist Watercolor - This is a portrait that has been enhanced to look like it is an Impressionist painting.  The work is done with Photoshop and other programs to add the image characteristics of an impressionist artist.  The image is then printed on fine art watercolor paper.  This is an amazing transformation of the image without distorting expressions.  It's amazing!
  1. Masterwork Giclee - This is a print made with a high quality commercial ink-jet printer on watercolor paper.  It is the finest and most artistic mechanically produced finish I offer.
  1. Hand Painted Oil - This starts out as a print but is transformed by an actual human artist who paints over the print and produces a real oil painting of your portrait.  The final price will vary depending on the number of people in the portrait.

Usually, most images will look great with any of these options.  However, occasionally a particular finish will jump out as the best one for a special image.  This has to be judged on a case-by-case basis.

I hope these explanations help.  As with anything, it helps to actually see examples of each finish to get the best understanding of what they look like.  Please call me with any questions you may have - I'm always available to help you with your decisions.
